Herein is true faith. We must trust that God will continue to do what He has promised even when we are unable to be aware of it. We must realize that we might not always remember the One who will never forget. God has promised to keep on remembering us.
This week’s communion was more wonderful than I’ve experienced before. Instead of the normal: deacons in suits, sitting up front, folding the cloth, serving the silver platters… we shared the bread and juice in a different way; and it was so good, I recommend it to you, too!
This is the "2nd Law" (actually just a repeat of the first.) The new generation needed it reviewed to them b/c they were about to face some new enemies and new struggles. The Lord knows we are forgetful - this book is full of reminders... don't forget God, His promises, your salvation, etc.
After 400 years of cruel bondage and enslavement, the Jews are walking out with God's mighty hand on them, just as promised (Exodus 13). What could have been a short 10-day trip from Egypt to Canaan would take about a year - because God had quite a bit to teach His people. It was much easier to get Israel out of Egypt than to get Egypt out of Israel. This is a beautiful picture of the Christian's journey of faith...
Communion is always a special day at church. It is one of only two ordinances that separate the church from other spiritual organizations. Every time we share it, it is a sacred day of self-examination and spiritual closeness. This week's communion was more wonderful than I've experienced before. Instead of the normal: deacons in suits, sitting up front, folding the cloth, serving the silver platters... we shared the bread and juice in a different way; and it was so good, I recommend it to you, too!
